How to Meditate: The Steps To Awareness
There are 3 stages in the human brain that explains it is operating at just about any 1 moment. When you consider meditation, simply going through these three stages can in fact get you to realize the tranquility that you are after with meditation.
1. The Normal Mind
In the “normal” state of mind, your mind is functioning in different directions. It is working as it ordinarily does which means it is bouncing from one idea and thought to the next. In fact, this is rather unnatural activity for the human brain due to the fact it needs to focus on a fewer number of ideas if it is to be effective in resolving problems.
Stimuli from all over the place are coming in to the brain. When something new stimulates your mind, it moves from its preceding thought to the new one. Although you sense like you are completely in control of your self during this type of brain function, you most likely aren’t.
You have very little control over the way that you behave and think in the course of this kind of situation. Not only do your thoughts move from one thing to the next thing quickly, but your physical being is doing the same thing too. Your emotions follow suit, too.
For example, picture playing basketball. While your mind is involved in the plays, your body follows suit. Yet, as soon as you see a car or truck crash, your attention is on the motor vehicle accident and you stop playing the game.
The point is that your mind, emotions and physical wellbeing are tightly intertwined; all starting with the mind and thoughts.
In the long haul the stresses from too many bad thought processes can harm body and emotional wellbeing.
For the most part, your “normal” way of thinking may be one of the worst things that you can do for yourself.
2. Concentration
Concentration stage is midway from endless thoughts to meditation; it’s a portal stage, if you will.
During the second stage of meditation, you might start to get control of your mind. When you learn to hold yourself in this type of mind frame, odds are very good that you will enhance the quality of your life noticeably.
Although it seems uncomplicated, concentration requires effort and in some cases, assistance by doing yoga, taking certain herbal supplements, candles, counting breaths, and so on.
Concentration is merely focusing on 1 thing; whether one thought or one object, or one feeling. The point is staying focused.
During concentration, although the process of focusing on one element is simple enough, the problem is the mind’s capacity to trick you back into its “normal” state of being. By pulling off the actual concentration topic and focusing on another, it pulls you back.
The goal with concentration, though, is to understand what’s happened. When you can understand that you have been sidetracked and that your mind has tricked you into making its own decisions, then you can return and actually concentrate.
When you can master the art of holding your mind focused and concentrating, you will experience a new type of thinking. You will be able to relax more, and you will actually feel better about life. That is an awesome feeling!
3. Awareness Meditation
In meditation, the third stage of the process, you enter a totally different realm. Now, you are in a position to fully concentrate on the object or thought that needs to be achieved without falling for any kind of type of distraction. At this point, no distractions or mind tricks take place to you during the process.
The effortless awareness of meditation not only precludes anxiety, it opens the mind and consciousness for serenity, relaxation, problem solving, creativity, and inspiration.
Even if you’re a newbie meditator, think back and you will probably realize you have entered meditative states before. Often while completely engaged, but not thinking, could well be your meditative state.
You do not need to go to a cave to improve concentration and have more “meditative moments.” Practice ten minutes just a few times a week and you’ll soon enough see advancement in your concentration and wellbeing. In no time you’ll meditate at will.
